Areas that are not officially towns

There are many areas within the state of Connecticut that do not appear in the list of Cities/Towns on search screens and in Add/Edit because they are not recognized as being their own separate town. They are generally villages or neighborhoods within a recognized town.

The most common ones are:

  • Mystic (village within the town of Groton)
  • Old Mystic (village within the town of Stonington)
  • Rowayton (village within the town of Norwalk)
  • Southport (village within the town of Fairfield)
  • Old Greenwich  (village within the town of Greenwich)
  • Cos Cob  (village within the town of Greenwich)
  • Falls Village (village within the town of Canaan)
  • Willimantic (village within the town of Windham)
  • Noank (village within the town of Groton)
  • Storrs (neighborhood within Mansfield)

Having its own zip code or post office does not automatically make an area its own separate town.
